The chart below shows the amount of federal spending in New Hampshire as a percent of personal income between 1981 and 2008. Since 1981, New Hampshire’s dependency on federal spending has been trending downward–although it has been trending upwards in the past few years. New Hampshire’s federal dependency is below the national average and completely on the opposite ends of the spectrum when compared to neighboring Maine. Overall, New Hampshire ranks as the 47th most dependent state in the country for 2008.
